‘Most parents’ place infants in unsafe sleep positions, increasing risk of SIDS

About 1,500 infants in the United States die unexpectedly each year due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, an umbrella term for for deaths of children under age 1 that cannot be explained by autopsy or surrounding circumstances. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports SIDS is the leading cause of death for children aged 1 month to 1 year. However, despite the majority of these deaths occurring while the infant is sleeping, usually in an unsafe environment, that hasn’t changed how parents put their children to bed.
