Family desperately trying to save Doc Gooden

Written by Teunis Felter

The son of former NY Mets pitching sensation Doc Gooden issued a statement late Sunday saying he, his family and former teammate Darryl Strawberry are desperately trying to save Gooden from cocaine addiction. “We, as a family, are currently planning his best course of action and thank you all for your concern, messages and prayers,” wrote Dwight Gooden Jr. According to published reports, Gooden, 51, has refused treatment and routinely locks himself inside his bedroom, avoiding events where he is expected to make an appearance.
