Members of the Oakland Unified School District honor band staged a protest similar to 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s. Some students knelt down on one knee while playing the national anthem Tuesday night before the A’s game at the Oakland Coliseum. The protest comes in the wake of Kaepernick sitting and kneeling during anthems this season, to protest what he calls the unfair treatment of people of color by police. Meanwhile, five black members of the SMU marching band kneeled during the national anthem before the Mustangs played TCU on Friday. A handful of students in the student section also kneeled along with the band.
