True to the event’s pressure-cooker traditions, the outcome of the Ryder Cup still hangs in the balance heading into Sunday’s 12 singles matches. After another day of extreme tidal shifts at Hazeltine National Golf Club, the United States is standing on what looks more like terra firma but could still turn out to be quicksand. After a surge by the Europeans on Saturday morning that brought them within a point, the Americans fought back on Saturday afternoon. With Patrick Reed setting the tone and sinking the clutch putts, the Americans won three of the four better-ball matches to take a 9 ½-6 ½ lead into the singles. The Americans need 5 more points to win back the Ryder Cup. The Europeans need 7 ½ more points to retain it.
