Halloween is over, but fear is still on the rise

Stock market volatility rose to levels last seen in June on Tuesday as the Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting got under way and the presidential race between Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican rival Donald Trump tightened a week before Election Day. Following Election Day, volatility will subside only if there is a smooth transition following the result. At the third presidential debate, Trump said he would keep the nation in suspense as to whether he would accept the outcome of the election, noting afterward that he would do so, if he won.
