464 earthquakes in one week hit much feared Yellowstone ‘supervolcano’

Written by Teunis Felter

The supervolcano at Yellowstone National Park has been hit with more than 400 earthquakes since June 12. The largest quake in the swarm hit was recorded on June 15, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake, according to the statement issued June 19. At that time, 464 events had been recorded since June 12. Though experts at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) say the risk of the Yellowstone supervolcano erupting is quite low (the probability is one in 730,000), it may erupt again in the future.
