Stop and smell the roses….

Written by Katie Crank

…….its time….I have missed out enough…moments are slipping by, friends are wondering why they aren’t enough, a child stands waiting. I have missed out ……I have been missing out on reality. Its a high price to pay.  Moments slip by while I surf Facebook, friends sitting next to me try to compete with my friends online, and my son stands waiting on a mommy who is in the middle of a text or post.

I see it everywhere I go…I sit at a table and everyone has their face buried in a phone, checked out. ….so I justify it “everyone’s doing it…what’s the big deal?” The big deal is that relationships are hurting, marriages are crumbling, and parents are failing……social media at our fingertips is powerful…if it wasn’t, then we wouldn’t ignore our friends who are begging for eye contact, we wouldn’t be connecting with people online instead of our spouse, we wouldn’t act annoyed when our child interrupts a post to ask for attention….

I know most of you probably have your life together and this isn’t a problem for you but I have really taken a step back to look at myself I will be the first one to admit ” Hello, My Name is Katie Crank, and I am addicted to my cell phone”.

Soooo…..I have temporarily  taken Facebook off my phone (GASP)…and I don’t even look at it everyday (OXYGEN! PAPER BAG!)…..and….I actually went to church and left my phone at home! (CODE RED! CODE RED! SHE’S FLATLINING!!!)…..you know what?…other than some sweaty palms, I survived. (ok, I also checked my empty pockets continuously hoping it was just a bad dream)

…..its time to “stop and smell the roses”…..

I’m embracing reality…..I’m loving my friends the way they deserve to be loved, I’m investing time in my spouse without distractions, and I’m going to show 4 little boys that they are indeed my priority.

….its funny, next time you are out,..or maybe even in your own home, just look around and you will see what I am talking about…….

……just stop and enjoy reality……

 ..Oh, and enjoy my video…..lol
