The truth behind my VIRAL video…….

Written by Katie Crank

So….I have had lots of questions about how this video came to be….I would love it say that I had it all planned out….that I had thought out every detail….that I had instructed the boys to act a certain way….that I was the big mastermind behind the funniness of it all but the truth is…..that’s not really how it happened at all.

First off, I love the original version of this song and listen to it on my ipod all the time…( I love sappy love songs)…..and on one particular day I had just had it with the boys….for no particular reason really, they were just being normal…. but all day long it was a repeat of….clean up a mess…fix a snack…clean up a mess…fix another snack (they eat constantly)…..oh look, another mess…piles of laundry….dishes in the sink…..”mom!”….”mom!’….”MOM!”…..my only saving grace was that we had church that night which meant they went to their little classes….. a free hour of adult conversation for me and several prayers to God asking him to help me to be able to do it all over again the next day.

So before church I had locked myself ….um ..I mean…shut the door (lol) to my bathroom so I could get ready …ignoring the “mommy” whines and fingers under the door (surely my husband could hold the fort down for a few minutes)…..as I started putting on my makeup and doing my hair…listening to my ipod….and out of “mommy desperation”….that’s when I wrote the mommy version of “When you say nothing at all”…..lol

It was almost Mother’s Day and I thought it would be fun to make a video for my friends and family on Facebook. The day we made the video I was extremely giddy because we were leaving the boys with a babysitter and going on a double date with our friends….(which is why I probably look so calm…because I knew that in a few short hours….FREEDOM!!! lol
I didn’t really know how to make a video and I felt weird just sitting there singing to the camera so right before we did the video while I was sitting at the bus stop in my van waiting for the older two to get off from school and the little two were flopping around the back seats behind me testing my every nerve…I wrote out the papers you see in the video that described what I was thinking in my mind….

When we got home and set up the camera, I planned out every move for the boys…,yelled out “Action!” and coached them how to make a funny video….oh wait….that’s not how it happened….actually I said “mommy is going to sing to the camera, just stay behind me and play and be quiet”…I set my phone on the tv stand and pushed record and then my husband started talking from the other room so I stopped (come on Ryan!….don’t you know I am trying to make a video here that millions are going to be watching in a few months??? lol)…I started once more and that was it…..I sang all the way through it and well, what you see is what you get. I could see the boys through the camera and the next thing I know their “boyness” kicked in and they are shirtless and tossing each other all over the place…..

Sooo…..what many are asking is… “Are your boys wild, unruly, disobedient children”?…..the answer….absolutely not. They are little boys….its like trying to make 4 puppies sit still…its impossible….its not in their makeup…its not how God created them. Do we let our boys jump and cannonball off the furniture…..not usually…but I’m not ashamed to admit that Ryan wrestles with them daily and they get a little crazy…and they are rough and tough….but ……I wouldn’t have it any other way…….;)
