I get it, 3 is a good number…..and apparently its the ONLY number that is socially acceptable when it comes to having children.
“Oh look at that family, they had two children and then added a third bonus child for fun…how sweet…what a cute family” *Accepted* …….but if you add ONE more child to the mix…gasp…GASP!!!….you get thrown into the “Duggar” category. Yep, that fourth kid pushes you over an invisible line that people want to make sure you know that you have clearly crossed…..you might as well have a hundred children because that’s how you get treated. lol
As my boys grow, it only seems to get worse. Maybe its because they are bigger now so when we all walk together it seems like a crowd of people coming your way oppose to when they were smaller and I could just hide a couple in the stroller and be “normal”. lol
I’m a very social person and I LOVE conversation with pretty much anyone especially when it comes to my kids, but sometimes….. I don’t even know how to respond to people.
I was sitting on the beach watching the boys playing. A couple stopped to observe our family. The woman said, “Are all those boys yours?” I said, “Yes” and then the man said “What? Why not just have 9?” …… I didn’t know what to say. I sheepishly laughed it off.
The next day we were walking in from the beach and again another couple approached us asking about the boys and the man said “Boy, Dad obviously likes his job”.
Um….excuse me? What did he just mean by that? I assumed he meant my husband likes his job because he has to work hard to support our HUGE family but then Ryan explained to me what he really meant. Are you kidding me? Who would say that? (I tend to be naïve sometimes) If I would of known what he meant when he said it I would of quickly responded in a sassy confident tone ” Do you blame him?” ….grrrrr!!!… ok, I would never say something like that but good grief, why would someone say that??……I didn’t know what to say.
I know other GINORMOUS families of 6 feel my pain.
When you walk into a restaurant the waiter goes into panic mode yelling out ” Pull two tables together…its a family of SIX!!”
When people say “Are those ALL yours?”….(nope, I saw a few extra boys walking on the street and I snatched them up to take them grocery shopping with me…)
Ha! Makes me laugh because most of the comments come from families with 3 children…..because you know, that’s “Normal”.
