It’s simply Indescribable.
I have grown up hearing descriptions of God “ all powerful, all-knowing, the creator of all we see”. I was taught that he is a big God….but sometimes he doesn’t seem that big….in my mind I keep him contained. Contained to my little world….my prayers, my needs, my life, and my wants.
It was when I took God out of the tiny box that I had put him in, it hit me…..God isn’t just big, GOD IS HUGE! I’m talking H.U.G.E. I had never really thought about it. Lets put a few things into perspective. We live in the Milky Way galaxy…..if we were to count all the stars just in our galaxy (one per second) it would take over 2,000 years to count them all….and this is one of many galaxies!
“He determines the number of the stars and calls each by name”-Psalms 147:4
Did you catch that??..EACH BY NAME. I look up to the sky and see millions of stars…God has named them all! I can hardly remember everybody’s name at church and end up having to say the “Hey!…you..” line. *awkward moment* God knows the stars by name, and that’s not all he knows.
He knows me by name. He knows ME by name. I look up in the night and see this incredible universe….it goes on and on…forever and ever…“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth”-Psalms 33:6.
All of this came from his MOUTH! He breathed it into existence! That giant fireball in the sky that we call the SUN, he breathed it!!!! He is a HUGE God…..and he knows MY name.
I can’t help but wonder the same thing the psalmist wondered: “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?-Psalms 8:3-4. Why would God bend his ear to listen to what I have to say? I’m speechless. Clearly my mind can’t grasp the magnitude of this because if it did, I would think differently. When I have a big problem I think I need to handle it myself because it’s probably too big to trust God with it…HELLO??….too big? Reality check…Nothing is too big for God!
In Isaiah it says He measures the UNIVERSE in the span of his hand! The whole universe from thumb to little finger! HE IS BIG!
It almost makes me laugh that I go to the CREATOR with my pitiful requests: “Please God, I’m running late for church and I can only find one shoe….please help me find it” or “God, I really don’t want to walk far into Wal-mart so can you help me find a close parking spot?” Even at his magnitude, he bends his ear to listen to ME! Why? One word: LOVE. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love. That’s why such a HUGE and POWERFUL GOD listens to me….and that’s why he listens to you. He loves you.
The CREATOR came to us to hang on a cross that he created.
That’s how much he loves us.
“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all: he has compassion on all he has made” -Psalms 145:8-9
