Your past. It can control you. It can take you hostage. It whispers lies that make you feel worthless and helpless. “Remember when you did THIS….remember when you did THAT…..if everyone knew WHAT YOU DID they wouldn’t love you”. You become defined by your actions, by your choices. A reputation follows you and sets you up for who you are. You were the woman who had the affair. You were the man addicted to porn. You were the teen who gave into peer pressure and had sex. You were the alcoholic. You were the drug addict. Remember that time you failed as a parent? Remember that time you lied to your spouse?
Your past…. it’s there reminding you of your faults. Over and over….and over. The enemy wants to trap you in your past, but God wants to set you free. God’s power is ALWAYS bigger than your past…His truth trumps Satan’s lies. It’s through your greatest weaknesses that God’s greatest strength will come. God wants to free you from your past….all of it. He wants the woman who had the affair. He wants the man the who was addicted to porn. He wants the teen who gave into peer pressure and had sex. He wants the alcoholic. He wants the drug addict. He wants the parent who made mistakes. He wants the spouse who lied. He wants to give them all a NEW NAME. He will take and change “unforgiven” to “forgiven”.
“…You will be called a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.” Isaiah 62:2
You get a new name…..a new start. God loves you as you are, but He will not leave you where you are. Along with your new name God will give you a NEW PURPOSE. He designed you for a purpose. It doesn’t matter if you think you’re not good enough. It doesn’t matter if you think your mistakes are too great. God has a purpose for YOU…..and as He reveals your purpose, He will give you a NEW FUTURE.
“For I know The plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”- Jer 29:11
You have hope in Christ……. you have a powerful future in Christ. God is not trying to give you a better life or trying to help you improve your life, he is truly giving you…… a NEW LIFE.
